A murder mystery, Clue-inspired story following Molly Gray, a socially awkward maid in a high-end, 5-star hotel. On a normal day, she enters a room to clean, finding the dead body of a very wealthy regular. Instantly becoming a suspect, Molly finds herself in a whirlwind of a week, trying to prove her innocence.
This isn't a usual book for me. I have been book-clubbing with my sis-in-law (hi Gracie) and it was her turn to choose the book. I would say it is probably the only mystery novel I have read so far, and anything I would consider thriller-like that I have read leans more post-apocalyptic or sci-fi/fantasy. That said, I actually really enjoyed this story. The pacing was great, and it was incredibly readable. I did think that it was relatively easy to sus out some of the fishy characters, but I didn't feel like it detracted from the story. If anything, it showed Prose's ability to create convincing characters and really lean into the Clue-style mystery. The characters were easy to root for or against, and I felt the characters grew off each other quite well.
Overall, I would recommend this book to most anyone. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I thought it was enjoyable and feels like a great option to start for mystery novel reading.
